process painting
Process Painting is unique because it offers an opportunity to focus on the process of creative expression, and not the product. There is no artistic experience required, but it’s equally useful to a beginner as is it is to the seasoned artist.
It’s an opportunity to practice setting aside planning, the thinking mind, and judgement, and allows the internal creative compass to drive the brush. It’s a chance to slow down, be in the moment, and listen intently to the parts of you that are overshadowed by the busyness and informational overload of everyday life.
It’s stress-reducing, meditative, playful, therapeutic, and creatively satisfying. It springs new ideas and is a low-stakes way of practicing sitting with the discomfort of the unknown.
I’ve created a tranquil inspiring environment for you to make time for yourself each week to express the things waiting to be put to paper.
Come see about the magic that happens when you live in the moment and do nothing but paint for the sake of painting. Make space within yourself by creatively letting go.
If it at all sounds interesting to you—it’s for you. That is how it works (it’s magic, and you will know if it’s for you). To learn more, read on…
Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. C.G. Jung
I begin with an idea, then it becomes something else.—Pablo Picasso
what it is
Process Painting is a journey; it’s a meditation. It’s stepping before a blank piece of paper, not knowing what will be, and moving one-step-at-a-time. You choose your brush, your color, and put paint to paper by listening to your intuition.
This is a practice, and doesn’t necessarily come easy, but there is magic when we quiet the mind and listen to the other parts of ourselves. It’s an opportunity to allow images, symbols, color, and feelings to present themselves in a tangible way—without judgement.
I liken Process Painting to a yoga practice: you’re moving one step at a time, with curiosity not judgement, challenging yourself, while gaining the benefits of connecting mind and body.
The studio is intentionally a safe space for you to go as deep into your experience as you like. I’m also on-hand to help you navigate your session, when needed.
PROCESS PAINTING PROVIDES HEALTH BENEFITS SIMILAR TO OTHER ACTS OF SELF-CARE, LIKE EXERCISE OR MEDITATION.
The take-away from a process painting session is the experience itself—like a nature walk. It’s an opportunity to bring alignment to mind & body, and to feel fun and free while you’re doing it. It’s like when you were in kindergarten and stepped up to the paint station. You have your smock, your brush, your color, and freely paint without worry about outcome, skill, product, or criticism. It’s like any other healthful practice—the more you do it, the more it benefits you.
When we listen to other parts of ourselves, bringing forth information from deep within, it allows more space for ideas and internal peace.
